Leader Speak: AI, Ransomware, and Evolving Cyber Threats

Shiva happy to have you here in today's uh conference beside security uh conference uh 2024 edition uh so quick introduction about yourself good evening Ram uh I'm Shukhan uh having 23 years of uh industry experience mainly in information security I'm also CSP certified and also do a lot of contribution to the cyber security community and I recently got an opportunity to work with the W3CS is uh chosen as a mentor. I started our trial edition as well. Yeah, it's going good. Awesome. So, I quickly want to check with you on the top three things that uh uh uh you know you would be concerned in the today's security threat scape that is evolving. Yeah. So we all see AI is

um know it's many people saying AI is like more negative aspect but I see A is a positive side and we all we also had couple of uh AI intensive sessions. Uh the reason is uh it brings lot of automation. Uh it also reduced the human effort and uh hugely mistakes miscon when we are progressing more and technology is evolving very high and uh rapidly it is growing uh so a predominantly reduce that effort and bring more automation and add value uh to the business. So uh that's the uh key message I would like to add here. Awesome. Awesome. So now that you brought up the topic of Gen AI, you have any specific experience or use case in

enhancing cyber defense? Uh I I think every field right but how you are consuming it is the matter right way you draw the line. I'm not saying everything can be done with a itself. So let's say hybrid is what I prefer. There still a human uh talent is required to use your AI uh appropriately and in an ethical way. Okay. Uh so the more is performance and uh the time which you consume right that sign significantly minimize it. That's where you should uh has the expertise right. So uh if you don't learn and adopt it right how do you consume it? So uh learning uh about generative a or chat GPT is also an essential otherwise uh the future

generations are much ahead of us right so at least what they're doing we should be able to good so AI is the way to go and it can be very well leveraged for enhancing cyber defense good cool I would want to know your thoughts on ransomware how it is evolved today what kind of uh uh issues that we face how can we mitigate any thoughts on them yes So this is again biggest challenge for all the uh industries uh beat cyber security professionals or in in general right so basically ransomware they uh hijack your critical data and encrypt it and it's a kind of blackmailing to get the ransom right so one of the mitigation strategy would be having a a

good backup strategy because people only they realize and put investment after breach Yeah. And I think now everybody's realized that and they are doing good investments to take care of their critical backup. That's one. Second, the insurance part. Uh right. Cyber insurance. Cyber insurance. So this is still evolving and there are a lot of myths are there. How they going to uh sign up? If they sign up, if they can pay or they not pay, a lot of ambiguities there, but still majority recommendation is having a cyber insurance could significantly help you. And first and foremost thing is if you get uh impacted you should uh need to announce it and inform the uh respective

stakeholders and take the corrective measures to give a confidence that you need not to panic. We are in back to business. Good good process. And uh final question before I let you go uh what are your takeaways or learnings from today's jam-packed conference? Yeah, it's a it's a great event to be part of it and uh some of the sessions which I you know got opportunity to attend the panel discussions one is in privacy and second one is a how it is evolving and uh what are the challenges uh and how we are overcoming and lot of insights not only for uh at a leadership level I think some of our colleagues also mentioned the kind of crowd what we
