Opening Remarks - BONCL Team

Hi. Hello. Hello everyone. >> [laughter] >> There are people here. This is B-Sides. It's a Bon Co. Happy Bon Co everyone. Um Who knows why it's called Bon Co? Let's find out. Do you know? It's from the original logo. So we had B-Sides NCL. With the extra thing it looked like Bon Co so it's Bon Co. There's no exciting story behind beyond that. Um happy Bon Co. This is our seventh Bon Co. Which is quite mad cuz we even managed it through the pandemic. I'm staying still Paul. Seriously. So hi everyone. I'm Sam. Uh who's first B-Sides is it? Wow. Oh that's very good. Okay. So you've got no frame of reference. Excellent. Um okay good. Do we have a venue person

who's going to come and talk to us? It seems to be honest talk about like fire exits and stuff. >> [sighs] >> Okay. If anyone's on fire go outside. Um no there's fire exits down here. There's ones upstairs. There's signs everywhere. It's a school so it's got lots of signs but um we've got first aiders on site if you've got any problems. Um first first point of contact if you do have any issues our fix wearing these attractive orange t-shirts. Uh who can assist you and are amazing and we love them because they are our epic volunteers. So um can we have a round of applause for our epic volunteers? Yay. Woo. Um seriously we could not do this

without volunteers. Uh we have volunteers as well that are on the organizing team. Everyone does it for love. We definitely do not do it for money. Uh so if you're interested in getting involved in helping next year and you don't see people walking past on fire or crying um talk to them about their experience if they've enjoyed it. You've had a great time haven't you? Yes. I think it. Uh All right. Uh massive massive shout out to sponsors who pay for a lot of what's going on here today. And are amazing. Saturday and whatever. They do send money and we like that and we are very grateful to them. Um but yes if you are if you have purchasing authority buy from these especially Sainsbury's cuz you all have purchasing authority at Sainsbury's. Um but buy from all of them. Especially Active Fence cuz that's where I work. Um but all of them are great. So there we've got Punk uh who did the amazing badges which do stuff. So if you're badge people and you can make badges do things have a go. There's fun to be had. >> [gasps] >> Um we've also got Sainsbury's out there. We have info blocks out there. We've got Active Fence out there and the support

of the amazing people. So louder for the people at the back. Hooray. Hooray. Yay. I know it's early. Important note the coffee van has arrived. Please do not get off from work off. Please say hi now. If you haven't got one yet everyone should have got one of these little plastic coffee tokens. Um so you can buy coffee today but you also get free one and there's pastries and lunch and all sorts of things going on. So you'll be fed and drunk I think. We've got competitions. So there is ETF which is upstairs the CTF room. So that will get Yeah CTF's up there. Uh two other competitions very important. First of all we would like

you to teach us something. So this is stolen from DEF CON cuz there were people walking about with signs saying teach us something. In the workshops room this morning I think the second session it is in your beautiful printed programs and indeed our website. Uh there some of us will be in there. Somebody will be in there. Go in teach them something. The two best things that we learned today as organizing volunteers from the teach us something competition there is a prize and a runner up prize. For the CTF there was a prize and a runner up prize. Also for those of you who love a bit of tin foil. Who doesn't love tin foil?

Uh there is tin foil space hat competition. We have 500 m of tin foil. By the end of the day I'd like significantly less. I want you to build it into beautiful things. It is also in the workshops room. There are two three sessions today where you can go and build a space hat out of tin foil and again um two prizes amazing LEGO for the winners of those competitions. So please take part. Is there? Oh yeah highest donation. Yes. I'll get to Hang on stickers is probably my next slide. Oh no it's workshop. Um workshop there is an incredible workshop this afternoon. LEGO serious play we do still have spaces. They are limited. Best thing you can do to get one is to

go on to uh Eventbrite. I think they're still available. If not basically the first 12 people get in that room and get to play with LEGO and do infosec related stuff with it. Um we'll have the best time ever. So please come to workshop. We've got battle bots. We've got book. We've got locks. I was going to do a boots and box and boots No let's not do that. So they are in the room behind you. Our lovely people bots battle bots are loads of fun. If it's your first B-Sides you should really try and go lock. That is the law. Um and stickers stickers cuz are in there too. Uh we have the charity sticker stall.

Uh it doesn't just have stickers it has other things. There is a wonderful prize for the highest donation. It's a magic wand that does actual magic. I am not I am lying. It doesn't do It does make a noise though and like goes bang and stuff the fire paper and that. It's good now. So highest donation wins that. Our charity for this Bon Co is um Bull which helps Bull Foundation which helps um families who've got kids with immune system issues. Uh they're a local charity. They're amazing. Please dig deep. Um there is just being paid. There'll be a QR code probably at the sticker stall. Yes. Yes. It's on it. >> [laughter] >> Thank you Liz.

Oops no. Um we've got agenda. There are a couple of little changes going on. Um one this morning which we'll try and get updated on the website but it's stuck to. There is a an amazing man on his way here to cover because one of our speakers sadly had to drop cuz he's poorly. Um we've got actual printed programs and maps and everything so that's good. Um which leads me to finally um we couldn't do this without all of you. Everyone at B-Sides is a participant. There's no like attendees versus organizers versus anybody. We're all here to have a great day. Um there are some things happening out there in Newcastle today. Um Stay here basically. Be way better.

And Nazis are rubbish so there. So anyway uh have a great day. Stay hydrated. There's food there's drinks there's coffee there amazing talks people workshops bots things stuff sponsors. Get involved.
