Cool. We've reached the end of our conference, so we're just going to do a bit of closing, some prize giving, a few thank yous, and then we'll have a bit of an after party afterwards. So getting into our CTF prizes, before we do that, we just want to say thank you to Deloitte, MWR, Orange Cyber Defense, and TriHackMe for the CTF challenges. The prizes that we will be giving out, we'll send it to the people via email. And when we call your name, please come to the stage so we can take a photo, please. So in third place, we have Rootkit Daddy with 180 points.
Cool, and then in second place we have Mama Lensi with 230 points.
And then in first place, I don't think this was a surprise to anybody that participated in the CTF. In first place with 910 points, we have a super user done.
Yeah, super user done was in the lead basically the whole time. That's basically the scoreboard. And then we also had a little bit of an oopsie with one of the challenges where you were meant to use a tool to solve it, but then the actual file was publicly readable by the user that you had to use on the machine. Anyway, we sorted that out. And then moving on to the scavenger hunt. In third place, we have a duck. goes, I think is how you pronounce that, with 100, sorry, 1,080 points.
And then in second place with 1,170 points, we have Nat Huber.
And then in first place, also with 1,170 points, but solved or got the flags first, is the chairman.
Yeah, so this one was a bit more of a challenge as you can see by the scoreboard there. We want to say a massive thanks to Tennis for running the CTF. Like running the CTF is, I know it's quite easy on track track meet, but it does take quite a bit of work to put that together. So thanks for Tennis for that as well as assisting with the scavenger hunt.
And then just a massive thank you to all of our speakers for the awesome talks. We received many high quality talks during our CFP process. A lot of the talks that we rejected for this conference could literally be its own conference by itself. So for all of the people that submit to talks, thank you very, very much. And then thanks to our CFP review board as well for reviewing all of the talks that we received. Then thanks to our...
Then thanks to our volunteers. Us organisers will be dead without our volunteers. So thanks to all of you for the time and effort that you've put in to make this event possible.
And then to my fellow organisers, Ivan and Michael for support on the logistics and a bunch of other stuff. To Lonnie and Kariko for running with the volunteers. and the registration among other things as well. It's great to have an amazing team to put this event together. As we reflect on this conference, this is the second year that we've had this event. We've grown about 35% compared to last year in terms of attendance. And I think definitely we're going to be challenging Cape Town's numbers soon, which is great. you all have enjoyed this event. We did try some new things. One of them was the batch system for the tickets. So the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it is and the later
you buy it, the more expensive it is. This proved to be very helpful for us from a financial model perspective. For those of you that don't know, BSAT is run as a nonprofit event. So all of the money that we receive either from ticket sales or for sponsors goes directly back into the event. And yeah, we thought this event was quite successful. But we would really like your feedback. If we want to make this event better, we need your feedback. If there's anything you didn't like or anything that you think is missing from our event, please let us know. So we're going to be sending out a Google form. It will probably be on Monday or Tuesday. That will go out in an email. And
yeah, please let us know if you have any feedback in there. And then to add a little bit of incentive, we're going to be giving away three, two and a half thousand rank gift cards. So one will go to the best speaker. So in the feedback, we'll ask who was the best speaker. And then any really good idea that we can implement that will win a gift card and then we'll do a random draw for anybody that does fill out that form. And these gift cards can be used on a variety of different platforms. So Woolworths, Uber, Macro, Google Play, Steam, many others. Then just we want to say thank you to our sponsors. Massive thanks again to our
platinum sponsor Deloitte. Our gold sponsors Orange Cyber Defense, Redshift and Rapid7. And then our silver sponsors Cepra, Cybercom, Nobifor, Mobius Binary. MWR, CyberSec, Node, Integrity 360, Tactical New Order, and Thinks Canary. And then special shout out to Mobius for being our first sponsor. I actually emailed Graham and literally, if you look at the timestamps of the email, it was like literally just after five minutes, Graham replied saying, yes, they're in for Silver. So it's great to see such enthusiasm and support for our event.
Then to our bronze sponsors, Telspace, TriHackMe, Untame, Cyber and Telec. Thanks for your support. And then to our coffee sponsor, Artic Wolf, our bag sponsor, the RiskX Group. And just again, a very big thank you to all of our sponsors. We cannot do B-Sides without our sponsors. And if you look at the ticket prices, if you attend a non-community event, you will know that the cost of attending those events is substantially more than this. And we would argue that you get more value out of a community event like this, which is really by the community for the community. And in order to put this event together, we cannot do it without the support of our sponsors. So thanks to all of them for your support.
One of the new things we also tried this year, we were inspired by Def Conf, who invited a whole bunch of community partners. We're going to do this again next year and hopefully expand it. So to the Johannesburg Microsoft Developer User Group, BSides Cape Town, HackSouth, the R User Group, the Investec Developer User Group, and Hexcoffee, thanks for your attendance here today. And then we would like to invite all of you to be part of our community, right? So if you are not on HackSouth, HackSouth is Discord server for the cybersecurity community. There's channels for different content and areas of cybersecurity. You can go to hacksouth.africa to join that. And then we would also like to invite you to join Hex Coffee. So Hex
Coffee Johannesburg is on the last Monday of every month at 7pm at the Milk Bar Park Mall. You can look us up on LinkedIn or on Meetup or the Hex Coffee chat channel on Hacksouth. We also have a Pretoria Hex Coffee meetup that happens on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm at Rock 88 in Pretoria. And again, you can check out the Hex Coffee LinkedIn page or the Hex Coffee chat channel on Hacksouth.
And then the Cape Town Hacks Coffee has also been rebooted recently. So it will take place on the third Wednesday of every month at 7pm at the Woodstock Grill and Tap. And again, you can go on Hacks Health for more information on that. And then we're trying to start one in KZN. So if you are interested or know anybody that would be interested in that, please speak to Michael to coordinate that. Then our next... Big community event is HexCon, which will take place on the 1st of November at MTN. So the CFP and the tickets are currently on sale. Massive thanks to Justin and MTN for hosting us again. As always, it's amazing to have a great venue
where we can host that event. And we will share the links in the post event email where you can buy tickets. Then for B-South Cape Town, That's going to be happening on the 6th of December 2025. The tickets just went on sale. We put them on sale a couple of minutes ago. All the early bird tickets are on sale. And the call for papers is also open. B South Cape Town is going to have a new venue. So we're going to be at the Lagoon Beach Hotel rather than the previous venue. So hopefully, or thankfully, maybe we don't need to go up so many flights of stairs anymore.
And then the links will also be on social media as well. And then in closing, safe travel to everyone going to Black Hat and Def Conf and a special best of luck to Leon who's going to be talking at Def Con. As Dominic pointed out in his keynote last year, when we have members of our community that are doing awesome things on the international stage, we really would need to celebrate them. So all the best, Leon.
So, yeah, so please join us for beer, refreshments and pizza in the restaurant area. And, yeah, thanks for coming to our event and hopefully we will see you next year. Thanks, everyone.
