Right folks, I say it's been a long day. It's very hot. We want to get out of it as much as you do. So, we're going to make this as quick as possible. [laughter] >> Yes. Yeah. So, I'm not going to speak. I'm going to let somebody else do it. Jason thinks he talks a lot. Man, you have got nothing on me, mate. Um, but no, thank you most of all for coming. We Every year we think, is this is this a sensible thing to you to do? Every year we think no one do it anyway. Um going to start with the competitions. Um scavenger hunt and battle bots and other bits and bats. >> So start the scavenger hunt cuz that was

the bit that I got vaguely involved with as ever. Absolutely stupendous effort. I mean it some of the stuff we've seen today. >> I mean your man over there with the the the tinfall hat. It's it's [laughter] I I want to give you all equal credit even though we know it as Gio's team. We know there are three of you, but you some of that is some of the other people this year did try and push you a bit. We we've had some great um some great entries. One of the team names. I'm not quite sure how how well that'll go down in leads, but um >> now then. >> Now then. Now then, now [laughter] then.

Um so Scaven Emily has been sort of leading that charge today. Um, how many challenges in the end did um did did Jose get create I got the pub. I can't talk. >> 38% of them >> complete out of 100 challenges we we completed. They did 38 which is just nuts. Um >> as were the challenges. >> How many prizes have we got from Kevin? >> Five. >> What? >> Oh no no. [laughter] >> Yeah. So anyway, >> we get into our prize, >> Emily. I'm right. We had two standout teams, didn't we? >> Yeah. >> Right. >> So, if they're still here, the um >> come get the prize after >> actually. We're short of time. the Jim

um sorry Jim fix it team and then always a risky and and Gio's team obviously >> what would you see teams called it's called GS oh team M go on oh god okay yeah fair play even the team name is [laughter] um Battlebot spen >> what >> hello oh we didn't actually do a competition today we just we just it was just a a session, wasn't it? So, that's another set of prizes we've got to, you know, >> the winner of the attendees. >> Yeah. Well, hopefully you're all in front of the battle. >> You've got that to do. >> Is Arian Mter here? >> Yeah, you won the book. [applause]

>> Before I move on, any more competitiony stuff that we haven't covered, anyone? >> Best baby. >> [applause]

>> My my aim in this industry is to still be around when I see Miles Hig actually giving a a talk. [laughter]

to to put on. We cut every corner we can. None of the volunteers are [laughter] paid. I mean, yeah, I meant money wise. Yeah, just joking. >> Found the food in the street. It's fine. >> Yeah. Health and safety, none of that. Um, but no, it cost us an awful lot of money to put on. We want to make that barrier to entry as low as possible. You you had the panel before about what can we do to introduce more people. One of the founding principles behind Bides is that lowest possible barrier to entry. if we follow the route of other conferences and start in charging for the tickets what it really cost us to

put on it would exclude a load of people from being here. So we charge a nominal amount. We also give an absolute ton of tickets away free to to local underrepresented groups. >> Um it it does mean that we end up 100 on the wait list >> for this a couple of days ago. >> We got over 100. >> Yeah. So we we we could fill a much bigger venue. We can't find anywhere that would do it anywhere near this price. However, [laughter] these are the people that make it possible. Sorry. >> Or is there a >> first talk? [laughter] >> Um, it's making much more sense to me. [laughter] >> No pay to either.

>> Oh, yeah. That that's the other thing. A lot of a lot of other conferences are paid to talk. The talks are from vendors that are selling you something. We absolutely don't do that. The initial round of scoring we do on the talks is entirely blind. There is a little bit of curating together otherwise this time you would have got 18 AI talks. Um but generally we go through those without knowing those. It's great when we got to the end of it and looked at um you know looked at oh my god we've got so and so. I didn't realize cat put a thing in until we this is amazing. So it's not pay to talk. None of these are vendor

pitches. Yes vendors do put talks in. Some of them are very good. I've I've seen great vents, but they're not allow, you know, it has to be outstanding. >> Yeah. But sales pitches. >> Yeah. These people make it possible. Every single company on there is fantastic because they've come out, they get so little out of this compared to some of the commercial or their their commercial teams don't get the same um feedback. They get >> their marketing metrics don't get that was the phrase I was looking for. >> Yes. >> As a marketing person say their marketing metrics are wrong with accounting, but they do get a nice warm feeling inside and you all give them a

lot of love and that's really important. So what we want you to do if you end up talking to any of these people in the future absolutely should there's some great companies there just mention oh I remember you you sponsor the bides that matters more to us than anything cuz next time they go actually we might not have got as many leads on that day we might not come out there was very hot but it it it built that relationship >> especially do it at the sainsbury self-service checkout >> that conversation I want to see how it goes Yeah, [laughter] >> getting IDed, all of that. >> Totally meant to us, >> right? Um, the thank you sign.

Obviously, we touched at the beginning. We had the biggest response to the call for papers ever. The quality keeps going up and up every year. I realized it that screws us slightly. I have never seen track one so empty at one of these. And I realized that's because normally track one is your great content and the the other two tracks less. So, we had three great tracks all day long, which meant we split the audience three ways, which meant some of those rooms upstairs were really quite tight. So, >> I was on track two last year. [laughter] >> I I'm guessing there was somebody lesser on be honest. I've seen my own talks. >> Yeah, you didn't get until 3:00. Shut

up. [laughter] >> See, you do talk. You do pictures of flappy planes. I've seen you talk. >> Creep me out of a trap. What a hike. [laughter] Um but yeah, possibly every year we keep saying this is the best speaker lineup we ever had. I think this was it's it's getting better every year. Um the volunteers, our green shirt army, I got veto this year because I I like to joke the fact that they should be red shirts and they're expendable. They're absolutely not expendable. They are the people that make this happen. None of them are paid other than maybe in crisp and rum. um [laughter] they they've given up your Saturday to make sure that you've had a better day.

And each one of these people is an absolute star. So many of these have also given time in the run-up to this every and we purposely picked people that we don't have to go and teach them how to do a thing. We go right we need a thing to do. Can you do that? >> So it it's we've got an absolute army of superstars out there. Each one of those at the after party tonight make it your mission to buy at least one goon a drink. Um, sorry, not goons, MVPs. >> Sorry. Yeah, MVPs not allow them goons anymore. >> Um, >> where where we at? Villages and challenge organizers. Um, the villages are great. They are

self-contained in so much that we can just reach out to people like Minty, to James, to Kai and say, can you come and do your thing and we know what's going to happen. We don't have to do anything other than give them a room and a bit of space that they've got this down. dependence battle bots as well. It's they put a lot of time and e effort into it so we don't have to all these things generally put cost them a lot of money to put on most of them they have you know the if you look at the on the day information I've linked to their particular projects they have donate if you enjoyed that sort of go and donate

today because again they it's their hobby they do love it it cost a ton to to do so um as everyone else because I knew that if I this bunch of repets in the corner. Oh, don't explos. But every year we do this. Every year it's it's a little different. [laughter] >> Um, but yeah, somehow it works. We And Chloe, sorry you can't be with us. We hope you recover soon. I'm sure you'll be back next year. But yeah, it it somehow it works. But yeah, to all I I I've got the best job in the world cuz I get to do none of the work and then stand up here at the end and take all the glory. Really,

these folks are the ones that are doing the actual work, >> right? >> Secret special extra slide time. We didn't just do this about 15 minutes ago. Honestly, >> you'll notice that all my slides today have been in Yorkshire. >> That came out wrong. >> It's now time to go a little bit Jordy. >> Are you Irish? >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Oh, yeah. I knew there was something else. >> That was a big jump at the end. Yeah. Um sticker stall downstairs. um £752 you um you all raised at McMillan was [applause] it can >> you can still donate more money you just might not get stickers >> the sticker store should still be >> still going okay there's some really

cool stickers down there >> there are some very very good stickers we put a lot of effort into seeding nice new ones in there um and that's I I love stickers I know I used to be involved with it but it's it's it's such an easy way of making such a great amount of money for charity and it's now traveling around all the Cons. >> Yeah. >> Talking of other cons. >> Other cons. As you can see by my Jordy accent the Americans. What you mean? >> I can do one. Um, with Angels of the North we like doing Yorkshire conferences. Uh, bonk as it's lovingly named. Uh, has anyone got a bon t-shirt on now?

>> No. We did our logo the first time around. >> Um, hat over there. >> That'll do. It did look like it said bon raids castle. So anyway, it's bon call um cold papers has been open now for about 40 minutes. You've got till August 9th I think talks this year's theme is space cuz uh it's National Astronomy Day. Anyone knows Professor Brian Cox, I cannot impress on you enough. Please, please, [laughter] please me. Um if you ever seen him talk, it's amazing. Anyway, sorry. [laughter] Um do love him. Yeah, space themed. We will have side tracks as well. So bring us your random madness. We want it. Um 27th of September feels about right. I

think that's Saturday. >> Um tickets are on sale now. They are £13.37 in it. Um but yeah, everything's on the QR code. That is not a Rick roll, I don't think. I mean might be >> pay either you get the first chance at Newcastle tickets because literally that and put them live an hour ago or you're going to get Rick Roll deserve you miss out. >> Yeah. Anyway, I think that's it. Have I missed anything on one call? >> Uh we need to tell people about the wristbands. >> Oh, wristbands. That's back to him. Yeah. See, that's it. >> No finish for 40 minutes. Thanks for listening mate. >> So, [clears throat and laughter] we shot through that pretty quick cuz

where we all want to be is not here. It's at the other end of town at Nation Shopkeepers. Um, they've looked after us for the last few years. It's not a venue we've ever done the after party at before, but we've certainly done plenty of free sides there. There is money behind the bar. One of these responds will get you a drink until the money's run out. >> Like everything at conferences, don't be a dick. Um, >> we'll be the last ones there. >> Yeah, we'll we'll be the last ones. If we turn up and you've spent the bar tab, I will not be happy. [laughter] >> We'll be the green shirt people you have

to buy drinks for at that point. >> Yes, absolutely. Um, but with that, I did miss one very, very, very important thing out on the thank yous. You all, thank you all for coming. Every year it gets better. Every year we get more and more people that we have to let down with tickets. >> If we could find a way of making this place twice as big, we we would, but we can't. So, thank you. And also, thank you for putting up with the air con today. We, you know, say three or four days a year, it just it's warm. It just happened to be today. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for coming. Thank

you to our green shirt army for being out. And um >> should we say see you next year? >> Feedback. >> Feedback form. >> Oh yeah, that's the feedback form. >> We really really really want your feedback. Positive or negative. We do act on all of the feedback. >> Yeah, >> particularly the negative feedback. So we really like >> we like nice feedback too. >> Yeah, we we do do quite a big retrospective after this about working out what we can do better next year. And these are absolutely invaluable to that. And I think the fact that we're doing this and we're talking about what we're doing next year, >> is it next year? >> See you all next year, I guess.

>> Let's go. [applause]
