I'm Malcolm I'm the chairperson of the bides PDX organization and the uh the general uh consensus was that I was supposed to get up and say a few words so I'm going to do that before we hit our keynote going to blast through these slides real quick um so just briefly what we have on offer this year we've got 28 great talks we've got six workshops over two days we've got two amazing Keynotes and we've got all of you and I'm so happy to see what a great turnout we've had some of the um operational details there are bathrooms on both floors the bathrooms out here are on either side of the big room uh our sessions end at 5:00

p.m. today I'm going to do some closing remarks again at 5:00 to 5:15 after that this soft wall behind us will open up and where you did regge will be drinks in our derves so you can enjoy that um and then also in the basement of this building there is actually a bowling alley and if you want to go down there hang out there's going to be free popcorn and free soda plus a little bit of overflow room if you just want to hang out we just want everybody out by 8:30 um we also this year uh have a floor have a room on the second floor which is the one below us right now that

is a quiet room this is for if you're feeling a little bit overwhelmed or you just need a quiet space to chill for a bit not to take a phone call but to actually be quiet that's the place to go uh PSU has kindly provided us with some uh uh material for people with processing issues like noise cancelling headphones fidget toys that kind of thing so take advantage of that uh and tomorrow we're going to do this whole thing again uh opening up at 8:30 Broadway entrance only again same as today we're going to also have coffee and pastries and fruit and all that good stuff that we had this morning uh and then everybody's out of here by about

4:30 so if you have any questions or if you need any help or if anything needs to be handled or if you got a problem whatever it happens to be find somebody with a blue lanyard they're volunteers and they will be able to help you out or they will be able to connect you with somebody who can help you out uh please review our code of conduct there's the QR code right there if you want to scan that please be good to each other be good to the staff be good to the PSU folks be good to everybody and this is going to be great um track one is here track two is down the hall and to the left down that

hallway there's three three rooms that are united together uh the workshop track is on the floor below us in rooms 2 96 97 and 98 those are also all formed into one room and uh you can consult the map on the website if you need to figure out where that is the Keynotes are here uh I don't know if uh anybody's over in the uh other Workshop or sorry the track 2 room but we're actually streaming it uh and we're streaming the keynote there as well and all of our talks are going to be live on YouTube with the exception of talks where the speaker didn't want that of which there is at least one quick round of thank yous before I

give it over to the keynote first of all thank you all of you without our donors without the people who show up every year without the people who pay for tickets we wouldn't be able to do this we wouldn't able be able to keep this conference uh a Free Conference we ended up selling about 500 tickets for actual money uh and that allowed us to provide 150 free tickets to people who needed those and we raised about $14,000 and that's fantastic so thank you first of all for your generous [Applause] support next up our volunteers uh running a convention like this is not a small task uh I uh can't take any credit for it um I'm part of a big team uh led

by Maggie who uh put this whole thing together and uh without our volunteers it wouldn't happen so thanks [Applause] volunteers and if you are interested in trying to make next year the very best one uh we are going to need a whole bunch of volunteers all year long to make that happen so look for an announcement coming out via email about signing up for a volunteer mailing list and we can get your skills and your capabilities hooked into our our organization and uh really do some great things next year thank you to The Venue staff PSU has been amazing uh an amazing partner for putting this convention on second year in the row now uh so thanks very

much to PSU and their staff and thank you to the conference leads uh the cfp board and the bsides board members uh they've been absolutely critical Brian Hazel Joe Keys Maggie some guy named Malcolm uh Maran Mickey n Lima Robert root killer shady and wuang uh thanks thanks very much and especially thanks to Melinda for our excellent art as usual all right finally we wouldn't be able to do this without our sponsors their room is located sort of off or back that way uh just before you go into the regge area they've got tables set up in there it's where you picked up your t-shirts if you got t-shirts give them some love show them some foot traffic there's a bunch

of great uh sponsors in there uh and we ended up having three diamond two Platinum five gold and four silver in community sponsors and uh that made this putting on this conference in terms of being able to afford it really really easy so thank you very much for all of them Portland State GitHub Google Northwest veterans in Tech hacker one securing Hardware isaka BPM eclips New Relic identity Technologies no starge press Issa and Summit so thanks very much all of those and in case you're bored with hearing me talk uh there's a special discount code where you can go order a noarch book for uh I believe it's 30% off uh it's live right now and it's live through the 22nd

thank you no starch press for that so just to wrap it up this conference is for you we're a 501 uh C3 nonprofit organization we're here to cultivate the Pacific Northwest information security and hacking Community this is conference is one of the ways we do that so make the most of it have fun and enjoy and thank you very much for [Music] coming all right without any further Ado our opening keynote he probably needs no introduction but Joe Grand AKA Kingpin is a product designer Hardware hacker and founder of grand idea Studio he was a member of the legendary hacker group Loft heavy Industries and brought engineering to the masses as co-host for the Discovery Channel's

prototype this so let's give Joe a big bsides [Applause] [Music] welcome
