so welcome back to the second and final day of security besides San Francisco 2023. again my name is Reed Loden I am the President and Lead organizer for besides San Francisco um and just very excited to have everybody here I hope you had a great time yesterday and I hope I wish you the best with today with lots of awesome uh talks and presentations and workshops and Village talks and everything else we have going on today so again I want to thank everybody for the uh for just being patient with us yesterday I know we had a lot of things going on we've had issues we've had food issues we've had the escalator breaking down and having to like call repair Tech that can't get here until who knows when um so it's uh there's been a lot going on this weekend so I just want to say uh we apologize and thank you for again for being patient with us we've tried to make some changes for today to hopefully alleviate some of the issues some of the major things that I wanted to call out spring typically is that we have opened up two Sprint stairwells up so there's one just down the hallway that will take you all the way up to the fourth floor and then another one on the mezzanine level that goes between the mezzanine and the fourth floor as well the elevators are still available for use and the escalators you can use to go up you just cannot go down the escalators which are on the fourth floor so that's what we have you can either take the the elevator down or we have two different stairwells that you can use today so hopefully that will help with things we've also opened up another line that owns for food stuff as well to try to speed that up that process as well so again apologies and please grant us some Grace today as there may be additional delays we're working through some stuff especially as we just change the new layout and and change things so thank you again just a reminder our thing this year is security putting the Cyber in space it's an uh homage to commemorate the James Woods Space Telescope and also just making fun of cyberspace of course so we're 100 volunteer Team all of us have day jobs um you know and so uh you know we've worked it takes a year-round team to put this together uh and so but our goal is to expand the the conversation we want to make sure that um people have plenty of opportunities to participate and expand their knowledge um you know there's no attendees at a besides event everybody is a participant we want everybody to add something of value to the conversation um it takes there's about 19 of us that work year-round with an additional 10 or so staffers helping out on things we have several uh specialty groups including our Capture the Flag team uh our call for papers review team and several other teams as well plus there's around 200 volunteers helping us out this weekend as well so uh I just want to give a shout out first of all to all those people that this event could not be put on without it so thank you so three different folders if this if this is your first day here just wanted to call this out again we have three floors um most everything is either gonna be on the fourth floor that City View or on the third floor that's where you are at now in the AMC Theaters um all our major talks are on this floor um and then but we do have Village talks that are on the fourth floor as well there's some really cool Village talks happening so definitely want to point those out make sure you check those out as well and check the schedule the schedule has everything there uh you can go to besides sf.org schedule for the most up-to-date schedule there um again lots of opportunities for conversation um so we have captured flag is in Twin Peaks this year this is right when you uh when you're coming on the fourth floor if you go in the hallway it's the first door on the left so make sure to check that out uh something new this year uh we have a career Village in the past but we have completely reimagined it and so in the Embarcadero room there is a queer Village there's a lot of cool stuff going on on there today I believe we're going to be announcing some stuff on social if that hasn't already been posted about where you can actually meet with different people and such they're doing resume reviews they do a little bit of everything so I know that times have been challenging for a lot of folks right now in all of across Tech and so I just want to offer that to folks uh to that hey if you you know been laid out or if you're worried about that or something like that that take advantage of this there's some really great people there that are happy to help out another thing that we have new this year is that we have free headshots and so uh they're right next to the career Village over in the Embarcadero room and so if you're looking needing to get like a new headshot for your LinkedIn in or some other profile and such please take advantage of that it's first come first serve for them uh we also have a couple of new Villages going on this year we have a bug batting Village and a cloud Village as well um and then we also have a reimagined hardware Village as our badge Village uh for that uh again sorry about CTF sponsored by socket um again challenges of all different levels uh we have the outdoor lounge space sponsored by uh slack um where there's a little bit less than than it was yesterday but it still should be pretty good um so please take advantage of that uh there's it's there's some games outside you can play and just like hopefully the Sun comes out a bit and so you can enjoy the outdoor as well again just a reminder the outdoor patio is completely non-smoking if you do need to smoke or even Vape you need to go you need to leave the building entirely and and do that outside uh make sure to check out your registration bag there are two drink tickets in there a lot of people have missed thought they were stickers they are actually drink tickets on there so make sure you use them we have prepaid for them so please use them um so uh you have the the bar is open until five today um or 5 30 I think uh 5 30 so take advantage of that we also have coffee and espresso until three today so it doesn't go all the way it's just till three so make sure to do that lunch is also opening slightly earlier so we can shift some stuff around at 11 30 so if you happen to not be in a talk at that you can go ahead and start getting lunch at 11 30 today a closing ceremony if you just want to hear me speak again about random things um we'll be at 5 30 back in here in theater 13. uh cool we have additional Services mother's room and prayer room are available via the info desk just talk to the info desk that can help you out there or we also have uh emotional support uh person kind of a counselor that is available if you have stuff going on in your life or things going on that you just want to talk to somebody stop by the info disc as well and we can make that happen um q a is down via slido self is pretty self-explanatory um the code is besides as f2023 I do want to call contact uh call out the that we're wanting your feedback we need to know what you think of this year and of different things the changes we've made and such and if you have any suggestions for the future and so please let us know you can do that one of two ways you can go to besidesisf.org feedback or if you have a feedback about a specific session or something that's on the schedule if you go in sked and actually click on that uh that session at the very bottom of that is a place to provide feedback so again we we read through every single piece of feedback during our postmortem so really do appreciate you taking the time to do that it really does mean a lot and we do totally take that all into consideration as we're planning future years so we could use your help again we're 100 volunteer run um and you know it it's it's it is volunteers and so people's lives change they may not be able to participate every year we've had people move during the pandemic and such um so we do need assistance um and so we need new faces and so if you think you have uh the time to uh to join us on the this year-long journey to get to our next event uh then please go to besides sf.org jobs and fill out the form there and we will be in touch after the show again just want to call out code of conduct pretty self-explanatory show respect and tolerance for each other's uniqueness be kind and practice the Golden Rule simply put do not be an ass or we'll throw your ass out yeah absolutely zero tolerance for physical verbal or sexual harassment intimidation or marginalization of any human robots are okay um if you have witnessed any issues you can get in touch with any staffer or anybody in a safety in a yellow uh sorry orange safety Ops shirt as well and we will take care of it you can also email incident besides sf.org as well printing program has the full code of conduct also there's signs throughout the venue as well for that uh video and photo policies uh just a reminder of this as well we're a bit different than a lot of other conferences in that we do have a video in photo policy basically the policy is that uh you need permission of everybody in the frame that you take a video or photo of and so and crowd shots are generally discouraged there is one exception though we have our photographer Kelsey here she is an official photographer on behalf of b-sides and so she is permitted to do that however if you if she's taken a photo and you do not want to be in it just let her know she's super friendly and she will be happy to make sure that you're not in it or blurred out or something whatever to make you happy um so again thank you for that we always do our t-shirt Charities every year this year's t-shirt Charities are the FF noise bridge and tectonica we are completely sold out actually of of shirts but if you have not picked up your shirt yet make sure you do pick it up today uh it is really cool it's actually like glow-in-the-dark uh really really uh cool so make sure to uh to get your shirt if you have already a pre-purchased online and last but certainly certainly not least um you know this event's not possible without our sponsors um it costs a lot of money to put this event on this is San Francisco and finding an event space like this that we can actually use and technically this is two different venues that we have to pay it's a lot of money um and so it's not possible without our sponsors and so we really do appreciate all the sponsors that have enabled us to put this year's event on please make sure to go to their tables upstairs if you haven't already inside your registration bag is a sponsor passport go ahead and stop by all the the sponsors on that that card and get your the stamps from them and then you can drop that passport into the raffle box at the b-sides booth and at 12 30 today we'll have our last raffle drawing there are some really cool raffle prizes I'm always stoked every year when I see the stuff coming in from sponsors they're very creative and so please participate they when they want to talk to you this is not RSA we love RSA they're very nice to us and we work very closely with them um but you know we're not RSA and so we want to make sure that uh you know we want to have the friendly conversations with with our sponsors um and uh you know some of them might even be hiring too so this is a great opportunity if you are looking for a change in your career or change in enroll or something or looking for something uh talk to them um and then I just want to uh take a very special thanks to our four leading sponsors Adobe appiro uh code red Partners in Google but let's give all of our sponsors a round of applause right now [Applause]
