Come discuss how to sell all 32 cyber security jobs to women and tech pros so they will want to join us.

so these three diamonds and kept me right I remember last year at her pod when I went to pick it it was the whole thing of any dream but without the M so that's how I remember it in it it's really good so to use the founder and CEO of national high security staffing company Tiger up that she's also the founder who are non profit organization while renovating and she also speaks for a number of the IPM speaking to the international consortium minorities in pipe security professional choir and fine being clever SS and rent range they've come up with the CEO of Russia software for speaking of sales aircraft seven and also the BPI toenails are

initial improvements and his assignment herself with high res an entry-level college graduates trains complete technology service like you do information to the community Eastern Point is very what it means B is technology for the zoo these ones on safety diver thank you very much I'm among everybody wants to eat in here works grade pretty rare to get this many people in a room at a tech training conference to talk about the social sciences and not exactly what we're going to do so what I ask is that we all get ourselves in that headspace because we've got some challenges to solve challenges that directly affect all of us and that are what role you're in and

fiber or text message yourself with your families and your friends and in this country so the social science taught I love to engaging and you sing got up here I'm sit down there and walking around and giving you the mic so don't be afraid to raise your hands and tap in a thing or whatever we thought that model here we can make happen so let's get into it is the first time I've been in this talk it is vivid in the making for quite some time challenging to get to this next slide I'll show you which is how many jobs are really in fiber and what are they and what are the roles and responsibilities

and skill sets that really pay because I am sure you all see this word hacking up here and fellow can get bill feeling right are you in your hand if the word hacking actually triggers you in any capacity in the negative and raise your hand all right so so those are raising their hand tight as well maybe not boxing a lot of them and in their mind offenses and say that's look who we are another big pride enough is math term and is neither a right or wrong so the challenges what does it mean and what is the world around us thinking when they see this word if this is the word that we use to describe fiber it's the word

on Lynn the word in print and it's those limiting that we are behind in talent and we are absolutely only selling these careers we very small population which is our national security issue and so when I wrote this pocket was released to say we've gotta really bring ourselves to understand that hacking is it is a term so it's good use by media and it's limiting and we want to talk in a greater level and greater capacity is helping us understand what it is we all do he really back honor mainly confined her since we're such an industry exited sex since January of 94 and gotten five or ten years early one drop of seven and

the reality is that we still don't have a common language what an analyst is said one organization is completely different to another and so on so on and as we know that's usually a result of the fact that it's not training enough people in the US or still restocks if you're also doing green poor job at one time and then some change over time is in the meantime it's a struggle and is wearing on our community you we're seeing fatigue and seeing a lot of turnover right look that's got the idea of the average amount of time let's keep information security officer students or job you know here the spear plus eighteen months work eighteen months this is not I think we

all know how long it takes to actually understand the company and how it runs and what it's doing and what is to keep it end and till we all know that it's pretty part of the past remember mine really be successful so we're seeing a long write down a lot of right now and break down means job changing so the title of this talk is about our careers we need to think socially about what we're all doing and how we're selling our career so first thing I want to show good - is this slide anybody got any ideas why I've got six jobs that are in cyber I was once because a lot back in the

back yeah I'm an absolutely not why I highlighted it absolutely correct anybody else yeah you know I'm going to be backed up momentum I get to realize the number one answer because well these people and enrolled are the baselines of what we consider to be a homeless be tired of that true not why I highlighted it yes whoo oh good exactly I'll just the word hacker up there I said every time we all talk about fiber in this world did we say the word hacker these are the six roles that you must be able to break into anything in order to participate in these rules really of the horse-breaking industry including on a team these as

well it doesn't mean not the focuser leadership or the folks under the federal role actually don't as so that they may have that skill so it's not required for their daily job when my clients call me worth making dollars and we only work trying one me many Tigers we are never asked for penetration skills packing still in any other position than these sticks that are highlighted gear and so my point is a couple of things we're pointed in smooth our Mountain the appointments here to your sharing and we have a massive need for them and it's actually the best area to get that we're educating in our schools are starting to catch up we're starting to see more and more programs

for girls in terms of being role filming more recent going around showing some bleep went wrong in my next couple of life but before we get to that what we're also seeing here on replies is there's a whole lot of jobs don't require the most skill set that we're selling the country on that we need and the reality is there's a lot of other positions so one of the things I noticed last minute I think if I forget express our government pocket that I have it ought to be 30 smaller job anybody know where from between here just definitely not gonna pop out of the game anybody want to take it back what's in there same here okay under the

leadership what's missing yes ah that thank God yeah and how extreme you know myself I've been CEO colorful think before even this one and we are living proper to change to telepathic and my fiber research in McGarrett Pittsburgh while we're here about this program run by Moshe bubbler and for some Erica artifices here yep California exact CEO opening up their home to be a monster out there telling young girl ill boy dinner wise with all these offices but even if they don't have a massive rear collector program innovation have leadership role inside our organizations in text company we're not work towards in general we're not are we ought to be because it's the truth and it does mean there are CEOs of

something that are highly technical it's one of the others typically meaning fail for technology and the reality is these role part of what we can ordered a bunch of your community all of these roles take up a call actually getting a paycheck because meaning this we talking about the word career this is how we obtain calories solute over and how we feed our family than ourselves because without everybody on we list we actually don't exist as a business which is what we are and so because we're not out there representing all these different jobs we're really struggling for struggling and getting budgets or struggling work overload or struggling in a lot of upset because things go fo to no effort as plans and

then people get upset if my finger isn't it not and then we have attrition and this is what I've been watching since I'm in the tech industry I see as much more severely in fiber I worked out work from st. banners for twenty years orange our minds company or different companies with them and their whole model was trained in samosa within and build companies work together you're better off together there's a separate these types of things so my my goal my conscience is people of sociologists and criminal justice major and level up field as far to run comparisons what I do every day think about people and myself and all of us and how we make

this is why what's going on and housing need have more folks in this community and work at a greater capacity to stick together and I do a lot of popular opinion we're going to do that a little bit today so anyhow questions thoughts comments on the fly ideas anybody wah yeah you just pissed that when we call it an art problems meaning has nothing to do all the subsets of what's underneath these another I sense if you are divided to get a better way of representing there are even different types of Tajima under security changing your absolute sure there are however when it comes to creating the job semigraphics if you will all the same choices and what these

people are doing just on different applications or systems you'll see in public business but may be scary to the school getting out the community we're going to figure out a way to graphically do this with me when different pieces they can go on after able to get this so big for a staging anybody else question up Thomas all right so let's get let's get into how we all can help at home changing sophistic hold in the community because it's actually don't even include the non-technical role so imagine how many people were missing by not even including them we can we feed all because we are learning community and businesses whether we like it or not

because we all come from research and fires you like to solve problems and this is a vast problem results the enemy is still get came through this and not what does complicated I don't like it even written to video you ever have a choice so we have to recognize that you fail folks that most of us some pepper in Jupiter are just as important use a scientist there in this room so I'm not know the purpose even scarier to think that all of our support in terms of how we are a business on you continue seeking there other than leadership so we've got work to do I really believe is all of us together are going to make

that change and the big way we're going to save it is to use look at these tunes lovely I'm going sitting right in front of us on their technology thank you for coming you're our future of stage in the game and helping make sure that everybody knows what's going on out there because right now this is how we this is what's going on Oh guys we got one stereotype of what it looks like to be a tiger all over TV and honest-to-goodness I have a whole talk about this tomorrow it's just an every character out in the Wilma TV and movies that represents our community some formlessness look here on the left side of the screen and while

this look is actually near and dear to my heart because that was President Marcos believe it or not I absolutely did it course you can leave in retire I desire a shaded HD moral comfortable giving in an acquisition crisis graphic 7 and how I was feeling froggy what my team was going to be like meeting this community very well I have to take that responsibility on and yet when I when I would we look at each other we have different look we're going to look there's like five or six different looks because we we all like different look so the problem is is all we're selling this mini blind or so myself to be impact

identified the in fact if I could certainly not are anything I said oh if I have it others feel the same rules you can think of how much we're missing in terms of turning people on what I think about our industry and how do we mean this to maybe take those masses of information like particularly remember when these are the only stereotypes and role models that they see it's not helping us so we've got this problem they time on the thinking of a legacy for an event and then the other thing was I was explore communication I mean I think that you all think you really have to is what's the hardest thing in your daily life

that work between technology and can we gain a human you to human right any good things that humans ought to do whatever and show it to me - got it okay yeah I mean really I want to all day long as definitely afforded recruits they developed an entry-level I've heard reasons for reasoning my Empire wife and one through my house today and building software company the number one reason for people leaving their job is manager cultures what is it it's not money it's not technology at times and like some use doesn't mean that people don't look for job because of those things it means it's not the number one reason for leaving so this board can be

making sentences here is causing a lot of problems causing the problems problems for men and not your role of changing jobs every couple of years which means you get very little connection with other humans that's powerful and long-lasting which is what we all thrive on and with your knives and if you are introverts you still thrive on it we all do and among example women my restaurant in the red chair back there please get there yes thank you for being together this is women are leaving mid-career at 53% leaving on community and you know what we all need to say last because they're raising kids and what starting to come out now Carnegie Mellon's through the lots of people through this

not that it's love it's being a minority and having their own money very protection pretty shitty are you visiting and so the sort of places to go I have health care the group's been around longer an Apple regulation on how we all treat each other wha actually compliance I see we mean even to maintenance all the time and what city I think every man is here to face much funner to work ribbon around kind I know it was in both of us the the is not much fun I get back to in in some ways is the job you know what I've heard a lot from issues and tears in LA to not on how to include them

makes it harder work over again yes God and if we do and fun of all things so uh nothing beyond open for men and for women and it was actually the walk home in these people are unhappy where they work because of how we have talked to each other if they just talk that I give called the five four three automatic remote Cabul area David this week my Sokka actually I'm gonna we're gonna go through that one slide and I'm quickly personal toxins uh in terms of the important piece of skill so before we do that complete any of you or parent you got nieces that Matthews behind it gets on to us it's like eliminated and please

this is juice the minute I saw my knees very aroused using an image ten years ago a design into the scarred me for life is almost gone from playing so P this isn't going to allow our women's have penetrate the smartest job in the country where you have to be test take yourself very seriously and make sure that under taking very seriously this is not going to help them learn how to penetrate battle it's going to help them learn how to penetrate silences toys to the right and so again we're going to really do this together or any of the reason that the security issues heinous we've got essential issues in terms of where we were long fostering are women

to be in the career so we are we going to get the other image I am reading together you can send it back for more men over these index we started doing two years ago and I'm not saying that a real economy isn't it or anything I'm saying it but your daughters are just now graduating from colleges there is Maurice but I'm opinion well then I figure they're struggling and finding a customer service job retail jobs and they're going to Berkeley and they're going to be schools and they're struggling to find out why I started the brain based platform will help young girls and drove it into the field it's the train their brains of nothing

to be looks like we've is extremely and so we provide the b-team students to work conferences instead of Lucca different marketing doesn't have to call a modeling agencies applause just indicating a response that two months ago I spare in the fans and rip up and we're going to some cool stuff but the reality is that we've got to recognize that we can be right now strategically making a list to make sure that our women are your other included in career so that we don't have to rely on managing people across the ocean how hard is it to manage and work together in both they office so when we ask for across the country conjugal visit all

doing it into this whorehouse internal temp I got some set in DI outsourced to Argentina and I don't want is terrible it's terrible so how about the girls we just train our girl here we're treating when we go over there at you said hola so that's bathtub my little speech I'm will change this just something about this all right some of the thoughts kill thing if we just implement one thing it will change literally the amount of breakdown that happens in your organization's every day and I really challenge all of you to meet believe having this guilty you don't have to wait what people above and have it or people deciding or below you can have it

yourself and this is idea of making measurable agreements every time I see a breakdown a breakdown these tell us upset some feel they've been wrong they're they're not happy with the outcome and they believe basic their roles in this interpretive that's right down if there's an emotional negative experience of people are upset and that happens in the workplace a lot and why does it happen if you guys knows what was the trigger created that emotion a person will start a sinking feeling and perceiving negative emotions is always because there is a miserable reason somebody thought they were supposed to do acts and somebody else thought they were supposed to do why I want to keep you down the delivery five

and whatever them is or is a process of somebody there's has been work they're not on the same page and there are fat it's because there is no measurement premiums and so this is something I learned a pretty young in my career it has been a failure of our organizations is from a perspective of variable breakdowns that we if we have an interval agreement there is an emotional upset because you know you're not going to complete something for you you or you know you will complete it there's no gray you understand what needs to happen and so does everybody else so when you all think about your your current workforce or where you work however both

there's everything that you're doing but back there is a breakdown then DC breakdown if it isn't possible that's because there is a measurable agreement I would better the lobbies they get that I'd love to hear its buddies wants to speak up right now and you can have a great job recently you could say you know what now that I think about it somebody was thinking one thing and another was thinking another who's I guess certain issues at the highest levels in the nation yesterday 3.3 million dollars of often productivity watching the Comey try a little bit here thank you you may be right we need it even though any further just all around up and it's hard it's really hard you

can see we're all imitators we're just the innovation business we're all the time to apply renewal obligation most of us require we move move move but we her the movement means not become have much improvement it's really difficult in fact when I think about it a lot about this the military the problem is that right everybody knows their job everybody knows what the responsible and we know in you know there's no lack of transparency into the roles and responsibilities and the other we ever we think about in the government you there's a big thing you're all you know plan Maori bills that they are five for two years if you want to look with other

job you can actually apply it you don't have to hide under your desk talking to a repeater or render your car because you're allowed to move around within the government industry sector but in corporate that doesn't happen and so here we all are running running running one is on the line and a measurable reason for the last thing we think because when we make them we have a slow dad we have to really plan everything out we have to totally understand the ended and that's work that we're not used to doing and so I I love keeping the course it's really important it's also a live report online and as because you know there's making several rivers

and then there's going back to work after we make them finding out that oh I'm not going to be doing it that way or it's not going to be that classroom so they're managing them too because it doesn't just say it because it's measurable go step is done as a whole or concept of having make initial agreements and manage them in every day it works if up and I went back so that's used for me and then the Queen language is words words words we use being thoughtful of them so that we go for people's death so that we meant the critical measurement opportunities who could be making and I'm so choosing our words and our language is such a

critical critical piece of what we're all doing out here and it says on that note let's have a little bit of fun here and how are you doing on time in the press oh that's my truth I thought is are me time okay so this is these are the five work then I say if you will eliminate from your vocabulary who admittedly lower breakdown organization these were our emotionally charging or these abilities of action so let's have some fun I usually have my pictures of all these they don't have them right now let's start let's start with try try I don't have a pen on me but usually like just come down there I'll review all if I

drop it on the floor and I think pick up that you get the pin 4 meter booster something somehow I guess what they did yesterday I think of the bad there people prepare so I'm gonna picking up apparently trying to think up some that I'm picking up because the water try actually is modern action and yet he was not here every day at work I want to try and do that yeah I'm gonna try that I'll try that I'm going to try and make that done tonight when I'm going those are words dry I am my full body wakes up I'm in a meeting okay this isn't retire are we doing right or seconds there's nothing there's

a lack of clarity somebody doesn't really know what the act is or they're not engaging and they're just going to blow it off that person coming tomorrow be like hey did your busyness classify on your good night and that doesn't try and do unless I'm is get to it now I'm going to break it people want to do this you know wasn't calling uh I don't I like to move off of that so it's eliminating them or a try it look like this I asked as you cannot get that bump or yes I will absolutely have that bus tonight it's one of the good and if you're not hearing that you're hearing try you as an individual

living here in the leader controller hop you need to engage figure it out and figure out what are we talking about community how do we make sure that they're not a breakdown so watch this word and maybe even have a little experiment out of it and excited meeting don't stop it penny how familiar is and what what happens is over the next days a week by reading this word in in the office okay just an interesting one there's what there's a few areas where student athlete needs to be used in the word not as when we're in a state of infinite response or word this data you must do this cash right now I'm telling you

because we need to get it done and you should do this to the works anything is emergency when your body I'm letting it go Katie needs the works just otherwise what do we go before you remember Jim Webb's and when we use the word generating ideas ah me should it's believing meaning I'm telling you what to do receipt allowing you to think about your options think about what what you think is the best way to do something and as a leader or TV the most important thing we beat we can do for each other is why we also be beverage need to hear how other people think because it is through hearing how other people think that we actually get a 302

to get review on situations and so whatever we say should you should do this you should do that we're eliminating our bill until you hear what the person would do if they for guidance you really want to look for the leader of those differences some existing something it's pretty rare that somebody just speak up that and their goodness you can do that or they're going to defy and then you're gonna and all we have right now this happens is so this words a break myself a minute fine fine fine fine how would it have a fine work in your in your workforce you figure it fine up by what is it what is it say vc-1 engaged does it make you to

want to talk about rhythm just misses it's totally dismissive because I'm not interested you don't really care or I don't I'm not disease issues whatever it is you have to get rid of because we either turn each other on or off all day long period across the words that come out of our mouth and if this isn't the place we're going to have the American dream I don't know where it's going to be I refuse to work around anything else as a positive L faint behavior and yet we're still highly selective thinking on serious challenges and that means you gotta come with language you got to come with skills and it isn't just tech skill it's also

doodling to communicate the way that makes people more on than off in that autumn everywhere why not why not so it's fine what I was fairly young in school is the essence of what we almost be incapable of normal emotions yeah the point for that is to say that normal is to be upbeat and for whatever reason we're all going to non-normal by many humans in general are not you know down or or unofficial or what-have-you and this is it doesn't need to be that our environment or like that all right so how about awesome seems pretty easy my honour will not involve or when I'm in a meeting I'm rare the word obviously actually meet in some occur I gotta get

my ice creams and obviously some good work we can get it in talking about why would they say that they want to stop the conversation you know what happens the minute son drinkin forward obviously because your honor how to do what very very card of the beer is supposed to be smarter they are telling us before I'm a collusive remember the stuff it's an emotionally-charged a water go ahead and healthy five words are really easy to eliminate from our vocabulary right it's not going to harm us it's actually going to really help us close anything worth anybody wants usually after this meeting when I do the whole hour I'll cycle being the elevator at sunrise of our

commute we got me using all five of them one payment so anybody's got that per hour at the evidence I love to hear them they're all fascinating house alliance i fabulous we should try to find with hopkins obviously only miss but please my favorite look oh my god what is oh my god but it's crazy it i what all day long especially in our government politics you know I like you but you know let's see what that presentation was great but you left out blah blah blah minute do you think well cop you can cook away the back that's the presentation was great it's not great crazy song your total is anticipated great so how

about we just replace but with an or a period that's your solution every time you want to spend award button actually negate it's a negatively justice stop your sentence and start a mirror or an add an app so for instance I really like your presentation I'm also director presentations hearing what's the think about XY anything or do you think about XYZ area when you were creating this presentation isn't your the great or you can say I really like your presentation and what about XY or if it's just the but just taking help sometimes a stylist because I mention up you didn't mean it we all know it trigger you limit your qualifier your subconscious mind

submitting your but you look great what will your ugly vision tasks in the free business you know if you're guaranteed not like though so whatever to be any symptoms you just be here than what the word but you'll see it and what I want to say to go super tweet at me play with the important to make your back to work send me a message I love to hear the stories what happens when you start focusing on these five words in your home vocabulary and eliminating them and what it does for you but also is watching these words we use around you and what happened what's happening when they're being used and really taking your social science you're a

social sciences food we're all because caused by money you are no longer just in Tekamah tell us she one side were all in sales the what is now that art appreciation unfortunate on some people are terrible fails doesn't be able to even be oral communication alright so what am I going to leave you with I want to leave you with these three these three bullet points to solve which is we've got an incredibly diverse workforce we need to spread the words of all the different types of jobs and not just make things about hacking and skillful on the skill of package we need to understand there's a lot of cross training going on how many engineers it

becomes build in just the last year accrued of tunnel it is more places that we're seeing that and then last but not least spreading the word on effective 50% higher paying buzz lot of great travel you have to be conferences put it out there getting out there to the success of both young and older and then this I want to leave you with this picture which is back my whole career has been working for men and I'm good also have never been here so I love men the world clear this is not about men are the problem ridiculously even say that devalue the solutions we need you understand what it is to be the one woman that's around and

meaning think about that woman and help back on them and reprogramming your companies that make it fit that we could have women stick around subscribe we need some we're not going to make a while wrap on that you already discussed that earlier and I'll leave you with this component is what if it was the other way around now here's a little screwed up think about this play there are no pictures of a bunch of women consume it exists I mean major its active is crazy my market acceptance is on top of our day here in hospital so maybe be able Esther how abacus easily didn't have will get I'm sure another change so how crazy is that

Oh God so this is the only future maybe right at the role reverse it hasn't passes we'll help each other out that retire more women trained more with us and then however let's uh let's not sure what it's like to be I have a picture and women in suits the big innovation they need to wear I've got a whole conversation level marriage it okay for another day like we've got a lot of stuff all that messy so we're running out of time but questions from anybody yes careers are very different [Music]

[Music]

so they always create all that great I love that question it's absolutely awful job searching in cyber because there's a lot of problems leaders and also because a lot of editing that hiring members are trying to get more in one and unfortunately what's happening entire advantages are cutting and piecing their job or meaning we just the research self and for security engineer let's go look at all doctor clips and see what people tell people post what words are they using and don't we found some of there's three different job everybody person to please that's great what was what you need is a networking here telling you what other company needs and so we have probably their problem that is what my

research even further that's evolving our product is being used internally we're going to go live businesses we have a kid no more cutting and pasting actually have a tool product and walks you through the process and what is the person going to different verses what do you think they need to have a skill set that's what we're missing when is the top one of the tap and the project that this person has to do every day and making the hiring is are sit down and then you can figure that out because that's what we knew by being excused when we take off staffing for coming filling a job that's the first thing you're going to do now that I've chosen

for what hours we don't get access to that person to have that our conversation just about that top ground and a lot of tenses up because what's going to happen is we're all gonna we're all going to just dance around this is the wrong person this is the wrong person until that I review sits down and here's the past and the project seven seven three months six months nine months a year which is the medical agreements the slowing down right so that's that's a lot of it's all completed but also just learn super job everybody feel like there are jobs out there right when you're searching is still awful you're talking to all these people

the number one thing in common language city gas actually aging in government yes well that's a blind aggression to Pericles death might have the among the empty level problems in touch more severe the problem with mister level if somebody wants to train so the only one got school having experience in security operation stuff where we're rare they can experience those I this is something a trying to conceive on connection which is getting our scheme students to run our conventions the basis of a sensitivity relationship sites that people will be more willing to take some time on really needs people's purses look at a resume or a depressing that looks we get closer to yeah I've been

going to training yeah and listen to that the entry-level it's about the phone I get students everything every resident to my table the degrees inside guards grade as master's degrees and not highly work people don't want to create it's just now that the Fortune 100 is getting literally I have one client in the 4100 that's just about five entry level of us putting them in their clock y5f you mention managers are contractors are they created a training program so that we can you know when you bring it Hunter did you kissed Ramos you're not allowed to legally difference the same training to give your employees so I've never ridden a contracted father I want many people in Venezuela like that are

also we do office will be a program working with the clients somebody has made even done quietly largest national fighters in first so it shows starting welcome some bad article and people make sense of the gradient gradient borrower we're gonna call that we're working involve it is you square the started their associates degree or certification back skin at all of working with another with them to start another more entry-level though the role too it's crazy we are we are we are madly off of great questions anybody else yes the nonprofit space because you'll tend to work with young women and work for with that's a great way car don't work experience with it and so the most
