Smashing the Screen Does Nothing: Chipoff Recovery of eMMC Data

Most people assume that if the phone is non-functional, their data is unrecoverable, which is just not the case, despite what you may have seen on CSI. This session will describe in detail the process of recovering mobile-device data from destroyed phones and other devices, such as Amazon Echos and Smart TVs, both for investigation purposes or for simple data recovery. Video (and perhaps live) demos of various phone destructions will be presented to demonstrated how bad a phone can be and still be able to be recovered.
