hello hello hello welcome to closing ceremonies thank you for staying I know that you could have easily just gone home um so thank you so much for staying to to join us to talk a little bit about kind of how the conference went and some interesting numbers and statistics um and things um so but first of all just thank you for participating um yes it really means a lot as I was saying during my opening remarks that you know you're there there are no attendees at a bsides event everybody is a participant everybody is joining in the conversation and actually taking part and adding you know new information knowledge sharing all kinds of things as

well so again thank you for coming and thank you for participating um so attend Us by the numbers um so we had uh around 1900 attendees of participants um then we had about 100 percenters 200 volunteers 70 villagers almost 200 sponsors um etc etc I won't read on but um this is a total of 2,682 participants this is our biggest bsid SF ever so batter of Applause yes um and honestly this is unheard of for like we've been talking we talked a lot of other events a lot of other bides just a lot of other Tech events and Co has kind of decimated uh iners conferences a lot so we're super surprised by this and so uh it really

means a lot that you would all come join us in person again um and do that so thank you again um for that as as our most uh attended bsides this year so call for participation statistics we had almost 400 total submissions 386 um this was mixed up between presentations Workshops the new birds of a feather track that I mentioned panels and villagers um there was about 380 uh sub submits with six different tracks uh 12 different people that actually helped reviewed all the talks um for 732 different reviews over 2,000 emails were sent out by our program team um of five people and countless and countless hours spent on this so uh the number of submissions was up almost 60%

from last year so this is like it seems like everybody came out of their Shale this year and we're like Hey we're going to start going to cons we're going to start submitting stuff and so really do appreciate that uh thank you again for coming um so final program statistics uh again this is kind of talking a little about our our different informational talks that we had the presentations panels and our collaborative uh rate um you can actually see that acceptance rate actually went down that's means that because I mean obviously we have limited space but because of the total number of submissions went up um that we could be more selective and so we could

do our best to make sure that the the quality of the content that we're providing you um is is what's something that's actually going to be really valuable to you um the the program team spends a lot of time they um they work with all the presenters as well making sure that you know everything's been reviewed and and such ahead of time because they want to make sure that it actually is Meaningful to the community um and that we're not like some you know other conferences across the street you know um that try to sell you things um but I didn't say that um but yes so Villages again our Villages was amazing this year uh we increased our Villages I

think by half um from last year close to half um so I'm just going to read out all the different villages we had we had average AR AI API security bug Bounty career Cloud crypto and privacy embedded systems Hardware challenge lockpick and personal security Village um raise raise your hand if you able to go to at least one Village and check it out awesome cool cool cool cool yes the The Villages were great um we really love having all the villages join us uh and participate um you know as I said earlier in my open remarks is that uh bides is a lot more than just the talks itself um there's the entire participant Hall where you

can actually go and and join in with these Villages you know we have workshops we had the CTF all kinds of other things as well so again thank you for for doing that and and and exploring the entire facility we have here so let's talk a little bit about capture of the flag um players and challenge stats uh so we had about uh, 1300 registered users this was a record um so that ended up being about 850 uh teams teams with solved uh was about 600 about 400 of those were on site of the 856 so we our CTF is actually uh available to anybody worldwide to actually participate um and so uh we you know we have a lot of folks

that actually join in remotely and and worked on that as well so uh you there were 48 total challenges our the team that works out I think this next slide okay let's go back um the the team that U that puts this on every year um they work countless hours on this like obviously you know we have my team who's putting on the event itself but the the CTF team they are by themselves and doing their thing every year um without having to be asked or anything they just do an amazing job every year um so I just want to give a a major shout out to them to the CTF team cool awesome uh so our winners this year and

uh this is talking about on-site winners um first place was the um second place so uh for for Let's uh I'm happy to um I I forgot to grab the prizes so they're still upstairs so uh for if you are one of these winners I will catch me right afterwards and we will go get you your prizes uh for this I apologize for that um but first place we had the duck second place meow and third was Natty Kates uh if you actually notice on this um there actually was a different third place winner this team was actually one of those remote teams as well so they didn't qualify for the prize um but it want to give an armable

mention to them to dcua as well um for that um so if uh for the ZET winers if you will just catch me right after this I will make sure you get your prizes uh for that um so they're all getting um Amazon gift cards um for the different amounts as well so uh t-shirt sales uh so t-shirt sales went great this year in fact we've uh you know basically out of t-shirts um and so we were able to raise 4,000 for $35 for our three t-shirt Charities um so I just Round of Applause for that Tech Bridge girls eff and Gardens of Golden Gate Park um we'll all be receiving a donation from bides as a

result of all of you buying shirts so thank you so much for that um so a little bit information about the network um so we had a 1 gig uh link from webpass from Google uh you know Wi-Fi um and one point about 1.4 terabytes are actually downloaded about 400 gigs uploaded 24 different Aruba APS around the space u about 200 1250 uh uh unique Wi-Fi clients um you interesting split between Peep And wpa3 if you notice on the thing that it was you know a lot of people can just join in WPA um but it also is interesting to see the people who went A Step Above for better security by getting on peep on

the secureity network um so uh that's interesting metric at a security compy conference um so we had four different tracks that were streamed live to YouTube uh and a special thanks to our knock team for helping make all of this possible uh so Robin BS ghost pep Griffin seev lrat and video man so let Round of Applause to the knock team yes additional event stats zero missing presenters do you know how rare that is that we don't have somebody um that just called out the last minute or something so that is amazing um so one of staffers uh was born within the last year so we had actually born the last few weeks um so uh had a child and so one beid SF

baby uh we have again one robot t-shirt left uh for all the ones we sold we're definitely going to be buying more next year um three live stream interruptions for various things uh over 10 pounds of jelly beans uh were consumed by the staff uh yes we love our jelly beans especially the sour kind um over 50 uh sponsor donated prizes were raffled away and there were some really cool stuff like worth lots and lots of money so I I'm uh very thankful to all of the sponsors um for for donating all those things and if you were one of the looking ones that got one of those then good for you that's really good um we sold out of all of our

registration Swag Bags uh we we don't buy enough in excess because in past years we've learned that like not everybody takes a bag and we don't want to end up with a lot of waste at the end um so we try to be environmentally conscious um about things things we'll probably increase that number for next year based off how numbers have gone but we also want to make sure that we're just not throwing a bunch of stuff away at the end um and so uh and this is not so these numbers are not final because we haven't done Terry yet and we're going to be here for the next you know five hours at least um so uh over a

million steps it's over 500 miles that the staff uh have have done um so far um and again this is not a final number uh we we w a lot at this uh your feet are killing you so um but it is amazing to see that it's just a fun kind of internal uh you know game that we play of just seeing how many people have are who had the highest step count for the day uh well deserve thanks um so again while I am the lead organizer I am by far the only one that involved in this there's no way that this event would be possible without everybody uh you see here so I just want toh say everybody's

name most of them unfortunately are not in the room right now because they're upstairs actually cleaning things out um so but I want to give a major shout out to Alex ASA Korean Christal Ian Isaac Wanita Lauren Megan Ming Nick Ricky Ryan Sarah Steve and uh Tanya we have our staff of Brandon Daniel David Dom Eric Jason Jitters uh Julia Matias Mr M neru Ron shig Tom and Yash the cfp review panel this year was Brian Evan Jackie Jessica Ken um Kim Kelly Kyle Lewis Maggie uh TK and will again our knock team as mentioned earlier video man Griffin Hannah and Daniel and a special thanks to Joe Joe Fitz uh for the electronic badges uh this is mostly his work um and

so I just want to give a special than shout out to to Joe for that so let's give a round of applause for everybody here again this is a you know a a full volun 100% volunteer team um a lot of these people give a lot of time and we appreciate them and their significant others as well um who put up with them uh giving us this much time uh and so and believe me i' I've heard it for multiple times from from significant others like hey you you you see my uh my partner more than I do sometimes like sorry um but yes uh just then obviously this weekend we had a lot of people

helping us out um over 200 volunteers doing all kinds of things across the event set up and tear down registration info desk moderator safety Ops behind the scenes and volunteer Ops um worked over 300 shifts for over 1,300 human hours worked um that's amazing oh let's give another shout out to all of our

volunteers so we give uh challenge coin recipients uh to kind of our special people that that have made a special contribution to the event um generally these are volunteers who have done something gone above and beyond um what is normally expected of them and so this year's challenge coin recipients um were Tom D Tom G AA Kim T night Al uh nicolina Grace cpat uh NOA apologize if I butcher all these names Nia um Ai and Dana um so uh you know major shout out to all these people um for all their hard work and that they earned a challenge coin these are not giving out much at all um and so these mean means

these people went above and beyond and actually did something substantial to actually make this event happen yes major let's give a shout out to us yes indeed thank you sir and finally I want to say just a major you know kind of shout out to our sponsors um so it would not be possible without all these sponsors I mean we we do our best to keep our tickets uh prices as low as we can um but it's this is a very expensive conference to run we are the most expensive um bsides in the world as far as just like the amount of the money it takes to put this event on um because we in San Francisco one of

the most expensive cities uh in the world um and things just cost a lot of money um especially the last years due to you know inflation and other kinds of things that have happened uh here that uh it's uh it does so uh it wouldn't this conference would not be possible without our sponsors I really hope that you were all able to go and talk to all the different sponsors in the participant Hall um and able to interact with them um because uh they really contributed a lot just by you know not just you know giving us money which is great and we love you sponsors for that too but by being here um participating

in the career Village is important as well um making sure that you know the roles that they had were actually making it to our our participants um to meet those connections and hopefully get some people jobs um right now so again special shout out to all of our sponsors especially our our five leading sponsors anthropic Google Microsoft secure frame and whiz so let's give a round of applause to all of our sponsors so again I you know you heard me earlier talking about all the stuff that like is you know oh ohow so much time commitment it's true but it is a lot of fun don't get me wrong I've been doing this uh since 2015 um and no plans to stop yet

um but we need we need help with this and so uh if you if this sounds interesting to you and you're one of those special people that would love to help out with uh helping make bsid SF a success in the future um then we' to hear from you uh but keep in mind that it is a nontrial time commitment um and such but you can apply online at besides sf.org jobs uh and and we will be in touch in the coming weeks uh for that and then separately from just kind of being a general b says ASF staff and Lead we also have our program team um so this is the one that actually putting together

deciding what presentations on this is the review Team all these kind of bits and pieces and so we're looking to expand the team specifically for this uh this is another non-trivial time commitment but it is more um time constrainted so if you're not able to help for year round maybe you're only able to help for uh you know a couple months this is generally happens in like the December January time frame where things are really kind of uh targeted there um so if if that's of interest to you if you go to bsid sf.org cfp there's a Google form there that you can fill out um and they will and the cfp the program team will be in touch with you

in the coming weeks as well uh so we want to hear from you uh again your feedback means a lot it helps us shape what this conference is uh we take this all into account we it really means uh uh you know it's very valuable to us to understand what do people like what do people not like uh you know I make this joke every time but like we heard for many many years that the coffee was terrible um and we tried multiple vendors and we finally have found one that people seem to like I think this is our fourth coffee vendor um that we've gone through and is apparently really hard to find a good coffee vendor here

in San Francisco um but we're very lucky for that but again this feedback is is Meaningful um so whether it's you know food related or something about a talk or whatever we want to hear from you you can give General feedback directly at besides sf.org feedback um and we'll go through that in the coming weeks and then if you have any specific feedback about a session whether a presentation a village um you know a workshop whatever that is if you go on scad um there is a place and you go into like the actual Talk itself the session U there's a place at the very bottom where you can actually provide feedback there um and we will go through

all that as we do our de briefing um but and finally I just want to say again thank you so much for coming um this year it really means a lot and we're already planning for next year so next year's dates officially announced are going to be April 26th and 27th so it's going to be a little bit earlier um than uh this year um but hope to see all of your smiling faces there again thank you again for coming to bides SF 2024 and uh yeah thank you again see you next year
